Enhancing Human Resource Management in Education through AI Tools
Synopsis
The changing face of education is creating an equally shifting landscape for Human Resource Management (HRM), and therefore, there needs to be creative thinking about issues such as recruiting employees, employee development, employee retention and managing employee performance. In this chapter, we will discuss how the transformative capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support various aspects of school-based HRM. The chapter provides insight into the current implementation of AI technology in education HRM, including applicant tracking systems, predictive analytical tools, and intelligent learning management systems, as well as how these can provide transparency, efficiency and decision-making ability in education HRM. Based upon case studies of real implementations, both internationally and within Africa, specifically Nigeria, the chapter illustrates how AI can be used for data driven recruitment, automated new hire on-boarding, customized employee professional development, and predictive workforce planning. Additionally, the chapter addresses the operational and ethical implications of using AI in education HRM, including algorithmic bias, data privacy, digital literacy gaps and infrastructure. Best practice guidelines for the implementation of AI in education HRM, including ethical models of governance, human centered design, and capacity building, are emphasized. Ultimately, the chapter concludes that a balanced, principle guided approach to the use of AI in education HRM, contingent upon institutional readiness, can be a major factor in long-term sustainable educational progress and institutional success.
