Preparing Future Educational Managers for an AI-Driven World with Ethical Values and Sustainability.
Synopsis
The rapidly changing nature of Artificial Intelligence (AI), is changing the way education globally is delivered. The use of AI has dramatically changed how education administrators operate, how educators teach students, how educational institutions are governed and how education policies are developed. Given the rapid expansion and application of AI across all levels of education (from automated grading and personalized learning pathways to predictive analytics and intelligent administrative systems), there is a growing need for Educational Managers to be trained to utilize the capabilities of AI to improve student learning, the operational efficiencies of educational institutions and ensure ethical governance of the use of AI within those institutions. Therefore, it is necessary for future educational leaders to have both knowledge of emerging AI technologies and the skills to successfully leverage the benefits of AI to achieve improved learning outcomes, enhanced operational efficiencies and promote ethical governance in educational settings. This chapter will examine the essential competencies that will enable educational administrators to effectively lead and manage in the evolving AI-driven educational environment including AI literacy, ethical leadership, data-driven decision making, and digital agility. Further, the chapter will critically analyze the shortcomings in the majority of traditional educational leadership training programs that do not include technological and ethical aspects of AI in their curricula. Additionally, the chapter will present recommendations for integrating AI-focused modules into educational leadership training programs, identify the infrastructure, ethics and human capital barriers to the adoption of AI in education and provide a rationale for developing collaborative frameworks to foster a sustainable and inclusive digital transformation in education. Finally, through the use of examples of successful implementation of AI in education, empirical research and international education policy initiatives, this chapter will provide education stakeholders (policy makers, curriculum developers, education training institutions and aspiring school leaders) with practical advice on how to prepare education management for the increasing impact of AI.
