Synopsis

A distinguishing feature of the emerging digital ecosystem is that value is created and exchanged, as never before, not just among businesses and consumers, but among other individuals as well as governments and civil society, who often act as the ultimate arbiters of transnational market relations. Digital platforms enable these interconnections. The digitization of tangible resources that were traditionally controlled by companies generates new assets for the platform economy, content generated by users and customers. The ever-increasing integration and mutual reinforcement of service delivery and consumption creates new opportunities for business, stronger exchanges among co-producers and consumers, and more engaging and personalized user journeys. Automating the increasing complexity of this process is essential to enable the next generation of human-centered services.
