Synopsis

Despite the growing sophistication of data integration technologies, the resulting integrated data remains isolated from other datasets, making it useful only for specialized applications. Increasing use of web and cloud services to support business processes for the collection and sharing of commercial data comes from the need to link up services from multiple vendors. Attempting to solve the problem of data integration in such environments in a simple and correct way results in a need for a SASS situation. The application of such principles would allow for real-time integration but introduce some challenges: data availability, consistency and provenance of the data being used. Similarly, a mapping of a typical cloud integration pattern—taking data from one or more clouds, transforming and augmenting it, and storing the result in another cloud—indicates that it would involve all the recently exposed challenges.
